Google has unveiled the Pixel 9 series, which includes the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. These new phones are powered by Google’s latest Tensor G4 chip. Let’s compare how this new chip measures up against the Tensor G3 found in last year’s Pixel 8 series. We’ll look at the expected benchmark scores for both chips, including AnTuTu and Geekbench results. You can also find a comparison of their specs at the end.

 

 Expected Advantages of Tensor G4 over Tensor G3

Architecture and Performance: The Tensor G4, like the G3, is made using Samsung’s 4nm technology. It features a new octa-core setup with one Cortex-X4 core, three Cortex-A720 cores, and four Cortex-A520 cores. In contrast, the Tensor G3 has a nine-core arrangement with one Cortex-X3 core, four Cortex-A715 cores, and four Cortex-A510 cores.

Clock Speed: The Tensor G4's cores have increased clock speeds, reaching up to 3.10GHz compared to the Tensor G3’s maximum of 2.9GHz.

Modem Upgrade: The G4 includes the new Exynos 5400 modem, which should offer better network connectivity and potentially enhance overall device efficiency compared to the Exynos 5300i modem in the G3.

GPU Performance: While both chips use the ARM Mali-G715 GPU, the Tensor G4’s GPU operates at a higher frequency of 940MHz, up from 890MHz in the Tensor G3. This improvement may lead to slightly better graphics performance.

Battery Life: According to Google, the Tensor G4 can provide up to 20% better battery life than the Tensor G3.

The AnTuTu benchmark evaluates a chipset’s performance by testing its CPU, GPU, memory, and user experience (UX). The resulting score reflects the overall performance. We’ll compare the AnTuTu scores of the Tensor G4 and Tensor G3 to see how they stack up against each other.
